All of the panels and workshops for APE are held offsite in some o the better art and meeting venues in downtown San Jose. This year we are happy to welcome to our programming Gallery Anno Domini (who is also an APE sponsor) and MACLA.
1) Anno Domini has been both representing and promoting urban contemporary culture
and its many faces since they opened their doors in 2000. What began as a space where new, emerging and often ignored artforms could flourish and be celebrated has come to be recognized nationally for consistent vision. Proprietors Cherri Lackey and Brian Eder have helped put a unique and energetic stamp on the San Jose Arts community and through their hard work created and established South First Fridays, a monthly art walk in downtown San Jose, as one of the coolest and most looked-forward to art event and perhaps one of the finer examples of what an art walk can be. They also founded and organize SubZero, a yearly street fair the rolls music, art and all manner of culture into two evenings of energetic artistic frenzy!
Anna Domini is located at 366 South First Street (btwn San Carlos & San Salvador) San Jose, CA 95113. This month the gallery is featuring The International Art of Zines Festival, which should be of interest to all APE attendees. Be sure to check it out. South First Fridays is the night before APE and well worth coming out a night early for!
Anno Domini will be hosting programming both days.
2) MACLA - MACLA/Movimiento de Arte y Cultura Latino Americana is an inclusive contemporary arts space grounded in the Chicano/Latino experience that incubates new visual, literary and performance art in order to engage people in civic dialogue and community transformation.
More than 30,000 children, youth, young adults, families and community residents participate in the 50 programs MACLA produces each year in four core program tracts.
Located at 510 South 1st Street, San José, CA, their current show is Pattern Recognition, Aaron De La Cruz, Adrian Esparza and Linda Vallejo construct, unravel, and mark to re-encounter the familiar.
Marla will be hosting programming on Saturday only.
